Marien de Jonge, graduated as biologist (specialization molecular microbiology) in 1999 at the VU in Amsterdam and obtained a PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2003. He worked as post-doctoral fellow at Institut Pasteur in Paris until 2006, after which he got a position as R&D project leader at Merck Sharpe & Dohme. Since 2011 he is working at the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, first as senior scientist and from 2012 as assistant professor and head of the Laboratory of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Since 2021 he is head of the Laboratory of Medical Immunology and since 2023 he is professor ‘Infection and Immunity’ at the Radboud UMC. Altogether he has more than 20 years of experience in both academic research and industrial R&D in the Netherlands and abroad.
Marien de Jonge has a long track record in research on vaccine development and host-pathogen interactions. His research projects primarily focus on the mucosal immune system, aiming at the improvement of prevention and diagnosis of respiratory tract infections. Furthermore, his group explores novel intranasal and intradermal vaccination strategies and the immune correlates of protection. In addition, his group aims to develop innovative methods to diagnose and monitor immune-related diseases.
